Street Arts of Chicago

Chicago, on Lake Michigan in Illinois, is among the largest cities in the U.S. Famed for its bold architecture, it has a skyline punctuated by skyscrapers such as the iconic John Hancock Center. In 2015, Chicago hosted over 52 million international and domestic visitors, a new record for the city making it one of the top visited cities in the nation.

In April 27 of 2016, Timeout reported that Chicago would be getting over 40,000 square feet of new street art in May. This was set to drastically change the look and feel of the South Loop in Chicago. The initiative took place from May 1 to 13 at Columbia College’s new street art festival, Wabash Arts Corridor Big Walls. 18 artists from around the world and in Chicago transformed the Wabash Arts Corridor with huge murals.

Some of the international artists at this festival are Ricky Lee Gordon (South Africa), Eduardo Kobra (Brazil), Marina Zumi (Argentina) and others.  The artists from Chicago would be Don’t Fret, Amuse 126, Lady Lucx, and many others.

During the two weeks, Big Walls held a celebration of street art, showcasing the diversity of artistic styles emerging in this vibrant art form. Here are some of the artwork done in and around the South Loop of Chicago.
